3.71 fatmsmod for 5.00 M33

Just a little update to the fatmsmod patch, it stopped working in 5.00 due to a sony file changing its name.
Instructions: decrypt 3.71 using psardumper (square option).

Copy the file fatmsmod.prx in the root of memory stick.
Copy FATMS371 to /PSP/GAME or /PSP/GAME5XX. Run the program and done.

Q: What does Fatmsmod do?

A: fatmsmod is the fat file system memory stick driver of Sony. Since 3.80, its speed decreased a lot, mainly noticeable in isos, that’s why in that time I released a program to flash the 3.71 driver in 3.80 (and resolve some incompatibilities). This is same, but updated for 5.00.

Custom Firmware 5.00 M33-6 + LEDA 0.2

Custom Firmware 5.00 M33:

To install this custom firmware you must have a homebrew compatible PSP with custom firmware 3.52 M33-4 or higher.
Copy the UPDATE folder from the 5.00 M33 package to the /PSP/GAME/ folder on your memory stick. Than copy the 5.00 firmware original update, renamed as 500.PBP to the /PSP/GAME/UPDATE/ folder on your memory stick.

Changes from custom firmware 4.01 M33 to 5.00 M33 are:

  • Bug fix: when changing speed in xmb, and the psp turned the brightness to 0 automatically the speed was reseted to 222 again.
    Author: Team M33
    Version: 5.00 M33-1
    Filesize: 184.15 KB

    Custom Firmware 5.00 M33-3:

    1.50 Addon for Custom Firmware 5.00 M33:

This file allows you to add the 1.50 kernel to a 5.00 M33 installation. This kernel can be used to launch 1.50 coded homebrew on your PSP. You can only install this on a PSP-1000 (PSP Phat, Original PSP).

To install this addon make sure you have firmware 5.00 M33 above installed on your PSP-1000, copy the addon to your /PSP/GAME5XX, than download the 1.50 firmware update and copy it to the root of your memory stick, renamed to 150.PBP. Finally run the addon client from your PSP’s Game menu.

LEDA 0.2 – Legacy Software Loader for PSP:

    PSP Custom Firmware 5.00 M33-6:

Custom firmware 5.00 M33-6 attempts to the fix the low-speed Memory Stick issue that has been problematic for certain users since the release of 3.71.

    Changes in 5.00 M33-6:
    - Fixed a bug that made unbootable psp without memory stick or with a bad one.
    Changes in 5.00 M33-5
    ———-

This update is a try to fix memory stick low speed since 3.80.
Instructions: Copy UPDATE folder /PSP/GAME/ and run.
If you come from a version prior to 5.00 M33, put sony update as 500.PBP in same folder, or let the program download it for you using a wifi connection.
    Changes:
    - A setting has been added to recovery, that, when enabled it may increase memory stick reading speed. (only on the PSP, not in the PC).
By default it is disabled. If you installed 3.71 fatmsmod, do not use this setting, as its perfomance with 3.71 driver has not been tested.
    Instead, reinstall 5.00 M33-4 using dc8 and update to 5.00 M33-5

The included file fat_comparison.html contains a comparison of perfomance between the 5.00 fat driver, the 3.71 one, and the 5.00 one with the speed up
hack during the read of an iso.
The test was done on the game Valkyrie Profile in CSO format in March33 mode. Other games, modes and applications different than ISO reading showed similar results.

  • PSPdisp v0.1

PSPdisp v0.1: use your PSP as an extra PC monitor

The PSP screen will have a total space of 960×544. Settings are adjusted from the PC. As Schleu says, “the PSP really only acts as a passive display.” The author reports that the program works for both the slim and the phat running on custom firmware, and was tested on CFW 4.01M33. Here’s a vid to give you an idea of what it does:

The program doesn’t work on Vista though.
    PC requirements:

    • Reasonably modern PC (Pentium 4 / Athlon64 or above) running a 32 Bit version of Windows XP. It may work under Windows 2000, but it is untested. 64 bit versions are not supported, as well as Windows Vista. I would like to provide a Vista version but it will probably never happen due to the changes in the display driver model regarding multi-monitor support.

    Installation (how to)

    • Windows application, drivers, etc.
    • Download the installer below and execute it.
    • When it comes to the display driver installation, Windows will warn you that the driver is unsigned, let the setup program install it anyway.
    • After setup has finished, open your display settings and enable the new monitor then move it to the position you like.
    • Connect your PSP and copy the files from the “psp” folder in the installation directory to the memory stick.

    PSP Content Manager v1.8

PSP Content Manager is one the best computer applications you can have on hand to use with your PSP. It basically is a complete organizer for your PSP. It can change the order of anything including homebrew, save data, photos, isos, rss, and bookmarks. This is particularly useful when your homebrew list is getting long and you want to order them in a certain way so you do not have to always go scrolling or searching for certain ones.

One thing to note is that when you download this the homebrew folder may not be setup for the custom firmware that you are on. It will always recognize the GAME folder, but if for instance you want to change the firmware specific folder like GAME380 you have to change it manually.

    Follow the steps below:
    1. Connect your PSP to your PC.
    2. Open PSP Content Manager
    3. Go to the Custom Firmware tab.
    4. Right click on any of the homebrews
    5. Left click on Custom Firmware Setting
    6. Change the name and folder accordingly

Now the manager can work with any firmware and can be updated as such. This is definitely a must have application, so waste no time in getting it and start organizing!

    AFKIM v3.3.5 Download

One really nice homebrew to have on your psp is AFKIM (Away From the Keyboard Instant Messenger). This nice application allows for an “almost” universal messenger client for the PSP. Its supports AIM, ICQ, MSN, GTalk & Yahoo! Now whenever you have access to wifi, you have access to your online friends. AFKIM was originally created by Danzel.

Homebrew developer Zx-81 has released a compatibility update to Danzel’s multi-protocol instant messaging client AFKIM, resolving graphical issues present under 4.01 M33 series custom firmware on PSP Slim units. If you have a regular (fat) PSP or are running a previous CFW release, then there is no need to apply this update, according to the author.
AFKIM supports a number of IM protocols, including AIM, ICQ, MSN, GTalk, and Yahoo! Messenger.

    SnakeSP v7.1

SnakeSP has made its rounds awhile back, but its one piece of homebrew that still holds its own. Everyone remembers the classic Snake games that came on cell phones where your goal was to make your “snake” grow as long as possible without dieting.

SnakeSP takes the old concept of the Snake games and updates it. It has a clear influence from flOw, which is seen in both the snake’s looks and the fact that the creature can grow in two ways, regular segments and fast segments.
It is unfortunate that the game development was ceased as it had a lot of promise and a few quirks such as too many “size reducers” that you can acquire, which dampens the challenge at times. Regardless, it is definitely still a fun and nice looking game that you can pick up from time to time and waste some hours away.
